    SYSTEM TITLE: Controller-Operations

    POSITION REPORTS TO: Director of Finance

     

    JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the overall direction, administration and coordination of all activities within the finance operations division in accordance with Tribal policies and procedures, generally accepted accounting procedures (GAAP) and Gaming Commission regulations. Supervises and manages, either directly or indirectly all team members of the finance operations division (includes, accounts payable, general ledger, and imaging).

    Responsibilities

    MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements describe the general nature and level of work only. They are not an exhaustive list of all required responsibilities, duties, and skills. Other duties may be added, or this description amended at any time.

    1. Practice, support and promote the Mission, Vision and Values of Muckleshoot Casino.
    2. Responsible for overall direction, administration and coordination of all activities of the finance operations division in accordance with tribal policies and procedures.
    3. Supervise and manage, either directly or indirectly, all team members of the finance operations division (which currently includes, accounts payable, general ledger, cost control).
    4. Ensure that accounting systems and records are in compliance with approved policies and internal control procedures, generally accepted accounting procedures (GAAP) and gaming commission regulations.
    5. Oversee the preparation of the monthly and annual financial statements, annual budgets and subsequent budget updates.
    6. Coordinate the design, implementation and monitoring of the manual and computerized finance operations reporting systems.
    7. Review reports prepared for the regulatory agencies.
    8. Arrange and coordinates the annual external financial statement audit and in regulatory audits of non-gaming, and as needed, gaming departments.
    9. Review insurance claims and policies to determine adequate protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
    10. Establish and reviews accounting and auditing procedures as necessary, including revisions to internal controls for the finance operations division.
    11. Facilitate the flow of the information by organizing and directing regularly scheduled meetings with all finance operations managers.
    12. Oversee cash flow management and investment decisions
    13. Ensure adequate staffing levels in the finance operations division by coordinating the interviews, hiring, training, evaluations, and promotions. Also includes review of all disciplinary action and terminations, as needed, in the finance operations division.
    14. Ensure accuracy of required tax filings and reports.
    15. Perform analytical reviews of operations, both self-initiated and as directed.
    16. Oversee daily, monthly and annual preparation of the operating results and communicates directly with the Director of Finance, Chief Financial Officer, General Manager and Director of Casino Operations.
    17. Participate in casino and tribal committees’ meetings, as appropriate.
    18. Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of all protected health information in accordance with the Division’s Policies and Procedures, and in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
    19. Coordinate with finance operations managers to ensure coverage of all required duties in the case of absences.
    20. Define and direct special projects to various finance operations staff as needed.
    21. Create, facilitate and maintain a positive work environment.

    23. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION (required and preferred):

    • Bachelor’s Degree with concentration in accounting and current CPA Certificate required.

     

    SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION:

    • At least five years senior management casino accounting and supervisory experience with an emphasis on team building and mentorship/development required.
    • Extensive Revenue Audit experience preferred.
    • Experience must include full range of accounting functions including preparation and review of financial statements, budgets, accounting policies and internal controls.
    • Computer literate with strong Excel spreadsheet skills necessary to perform the essential functions of this job.
    • Knowledge of computerized accounting systems and automated payroll systems required.
